Painted on real canvas, then scanned stroke by stroke
Most Procreate oil brushes are soft rounds with a canvas overlay.
They look digital and flat. Real oil paint has texture variation in a single stroke: thick in the middle, thin at the edges.
It catches light differently when wet vs dry, and shows brush hair marks. We scanned 200+ real oil strokes on canvas, then spent about 6 months building those textures into Procreate.
The result: brushes that respond to pressure, angle, and speed more like real bristles.
Where these differ from free oil brushes
Edge quality. Free brushes often have clean edges. Real oil has irregular, textured edges where bristles leave marks.
Opacity. Free brushes tend to be either opaque or transparent. Real paint can be both in one stroke: thick in the middle, thin at the edges.
Blending. Free oil brushes muddy colours when you blend. These let you blend without turning everything gray-brown.
