Laura starts with how Procreate works, then builds the drawing basics underneath every good character: faces, ages, expressions, hair and clothes. At the end you design one character of your own from start to finish.

Why your characters all look the same
Most people learn to draw one face, at one angle, at one age, and then every character comes out as that face in a different outfit.
This course gives you the pieces that make characters different from each other: how a head turns, how a child is built differently from a grandmother, how one face shows six emotions, and how hair and clothes tell people who someone is.
You practise each piece on its own first, then put them all together in a character you design yourself.
Built for beginners, step by step
Eight modules in the order Laura teaches them, each one small enough to finish in a sitting or two.
Procreate from the first tap
The first module walks through the interface, gestures, colours, brushes, the brush studio, layers and exporting, so the tools never get in the way of the drawing.
Foundations before style
Clean lines, gesture drawing, the landmarks of the body and simplified hands and feet come first, so your characters stand and move like real people.
One character, start to finish
The last full module takes a single character from defining the idea through clean sketches, colour options, texture, light and shadow.
What you will draw
Short studies that build into one finished character.

Portraits from reference
The head, eyes, nose and mouth one at a time, then the same face from different angles and a full rendered portrait.

Characters of every age
Babies, children, teens, young adults, adults and elderly characters, plus how bodies and proportions change between them.

Your own character
Hair, clothing, fabrics and props, then a character you define yourself, sketched three ways and finished with colour and light.

Everything I learned, in the order I wish I had learned it
Hi, I'm Laura Dumitriu, a children's book illustrator and character designer. I studied painting in high school and art history at university, then spent a while in graphic design before I found illustration in 2019.
That year I opened an Instagram account and posted a drawing every day for a year. Draw-this-in-your-style challenges turned me towards portraits, and the daily practice is what grew both my drawing and my audience, until illustrating children's books and designing characters became my job.
My journey is not so different from yours. Post something today, then post again at the end of the course, and look at the two side by side.

What you can do by the last lesson
Eight modules, from the Procreate basics to a finished character.
Use Procreate with confidence: brushes, the brush studio, layers, blending modes and exporting.
Draw faces: the head, eyes, nose and mouth, face shapes and the same face from different angles.
Change age and body type: draw the same idea as a child, a teenager, an adult or a grandparent.
Show emotion: expressions and body language that read at a glance, even in children.
Finish a character: take your own idea from clean sketch to colour, texture, light and shadow.
Characters are easier on an iPad
Character design is mostly trying things: a different nose, a shorter fringe, a warmer skin tone. In Procreate each of those is a layer you can switch off, not an eraser hole in your paper.
Laura shows you how to make your own brush stamp and how to use blending modes, so texture, light and shadow go on without repainting the whole character.

FAQs
Find answers to common questions about this and other Twotap courses
Any iPad from 2018 onward runs Procreate well. You don't need the newest model, just one that takes a pressure-sensitive Apple Pencil.
Yes, Procreate works best with a pressure-sensitive Apple Pencil (1st Gen, 2nd Gen, or Pro). The basic USB-C Pencil is less ideal for line weight and opacity.
The videos total 10 hours 13 minutes. Most Twotap students take longer than that because they stop and draw along, which is the point. Lifetime access means you set the pace.
No. The first module teaches Procreate itself, and the drawing lessons start with lines and gestures before any faces. If you can hold an Apple Pencil, you can follow along.
This course teaches the foundations step by step and is the place to start. Drawing Characters, the Laura Way is a set of longer draw-along demonstrations for when you are comfortable with the basics. They are sold separately.
You can watch on any device with a browser, but you'll want your iPad open to draw along. Many students watch a step, pause, then draw, or use a second screen for the video.
Every lesson has a comment section in Twotap where you can ask a question under the exact video you are on. You can also email support@twotap.art anytime.
No. This is a one-time purchase with lifetime access. Buy once, revisit forever, including updates we add to the course.
Yes. We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. If it isn't the right fit, reach out to support@twotap.art within 30 days and we'll take care of a full refund.
